Health Insurance

If you change jobs, you shouldn't have to change your doctor. I mean, maybe I'm crazy (I mean maybe I am, so what's it to you?), but I don't think that if I make a positive life decision to get out from under Manager From Hell, I should have to change my insurance company and very likely change my Primary Care Provider.

And that's such a crock. What kind of euphamistic term is that anyway? Primary Care Provider. Hello! I'M my primary care provider, thank you very much.

I've been working with and sometimes without benefits since 198?-cough, gag, wheeze and I can't even tell you how many doctors I've gone through just because I've moved, I've changed jobs, or my employer or even provider have changed plans. I count myself one of the lucky ones, though, because for the most part I've been healthy. Knock on wood (BWT meaning: may lightning strike this tree rather than me for saying that).

I haven't seen Sicko yet. Dying to. Pun intended. Waiting for it to make it to the cheap theatres. I'm broke, what can I say. Too much of my money goes to paying for razzin' frazzin' health insurance. But I'm not bitter, no. Have you see it?

What do you think?

You can't say "Manager From Hell"!!! You could get fired!!!

Oh, wait. You can't get fired! : )

I agree that you should always be able to keep your doctor. In fact, even when you move. They should have to move with you. They made a choice to serve humankind, and by God they need to follow through.

I haven't seen "Sicko" and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it. On the other hand, I have seen universal tax-supported health care, and I sure liked that.

Somebody I know needed emergency surgery in Europe somewhere and the hospital staff nearly paid HIM for stopping by.

A Canadian I know living in the good ol' US of A commented on how screwed up it is to be asked how you're going pay before you're asked how you're doing when you go to the doctor.

That's messed up.

MK5K: why wouldn't you like "Sicko"? Michael Moore not your kind of guy?

I saw Sicko twice. The second time I took all my students to see it. The film provided for great discussion & a rich couple of lessons.

M. Moore definitely romanticises the health care systems of the countries he profiles, but the most profound and disturbing info is about the system in this country - the shady stuff that underlies what makes the health care industry so messed up here.

You should see it.

And, by the way, I will miss you at work SOOOOO much. So many great people leaving in such a short span of time. Not fair.... to me ;)
